2018 - 2021
In 2018, as the struggle for digital freedom reached its zenith in Russia, three visionary developers from St. Petersburg — Aleksandr Litreev, Artem Tamoian, and Ilya Andreev — came together to establish Vee Security in Estonia. United by their commitment to safeguarding open access to the internet, the team, led by Aleksandr Litreev, set out on a mission to create tools that empower individuals to break free from the chains of censorship.
When Russian authorities declared war on Telegram, vowing to block it across the country, the Vee Security team rose to the challenge. They engineered a groundbreaking, high-performance SOCKS5 proxy engine entirely from scratch, enabling uninterrupted access to Telegram for millions of Russian users. At its peak, the platform supported over 2 million simultaneous connections, serving as a lifeline for those defying censorship.
Vee Security’s efforts became a beacon of resilience, ensuring Telegram remained accessible until the Russian government ultimately surrendered its attempts to suppress the messenger. It was a testament to what a determined and innovative team could achieve in the face of oppression.
Building on their expertise and experience, Vee Security later introduced Connecto VPN, a commercial VPN service designed to deliver seamless access to an open internet. With a distinctive approach to bypassing censorship and an unyielding stance against digital restrictions, the company’s work gained international recognition, earning coverage in prominent outlets such as TechCrunch.
By 2019, the entire Vee Security team had relocated from Russia, driven by their commitment to freedom and innovation. In 2021, the company officially concluded its operations, marking the end of an era while paving the way for the founders to channel their energy into new ventures and challenges.
